Maui character Project

This plasticine character was my first exploration into both animation and character design within stop motion. The design draws inspiration from the monumental heads of Easter Island, with additional loose influences from Māori culture in New Zealand. The figure was primarily sculpted using plasticine, with epoxy putty incorporated to maintain the structure and consistency of the head throughout production.

This short animation was one of my first experiences bringing a design to life from the ground up. Looking back, there are elements I would refine now such as the lighting flicker and visible shadow shifts but it remains a project I’m really proud of. It marks an important step in my development and shows how far I’ve come.
